VA Aid and Attendance Benefits & Housebound Allowance

At DJC Rock Home Care, we are proud to assist our nation's heroes and their families by helping them access the VA benefits they’ve earned — including Aid and Attendance and Housebound Allowance. These programs provide monthly financial support to qualifying veterans and surviving spouses who need help with daily living activities or are confined to their homes due to disabilities.
What is Aid and Attendance (A&A)?
Aid and Attendance is a VA benefit added to a veteran’s or surviving spouse’s monthly pension. It is designed for those who:
- Need help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, or mobility
- Are bedridden or spend most of the day in bed due to illness
- Live in a nursing home due to physical or mental incapacity
- Have limited eyesight (even with glasses)
This benefit can help cover the cost of in-home care services like those we offer at DJC Rock Home Care.
What is the Housebound Allowance?
The Housebound Allowance is another pension add-on for veterans and survivors who:
- Have a permanent disability that confines them to their home
- Cannot leave their home without assistance or risk
This benefit is not combinable with Aid and Attendance, but may apply if the veteran doesn’t meet the higher level of care needs required for A&A.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for either benefit, the veteran must:
- Be age 65 or older or totally disabled
- Have served at least 90 days of active duty, including one day during wartime
- Have a discharge status other than dishonorable
- Meet financial need requirements
- Provide a medical evaluation showing the need for assistance with daily living or housebound status
